Hyderabad: Defence officials and the Hyderabad Police team will conduct joint physical inspections of roads in the Cantonment area to assess which roads are open for public transport and which are sensitive.
On Wednesday, a meeting of resident authorities led by GOC Brigadier General Soma Shanker, Resident Chief Col. Sidharth and Hyderabad City Police, represented by Commissioner CV Anand, addressed the issue.
Today’s meeting comes after the Hyderabad Traffic Police, headed by joint CP Ranganath and DCP North District Chandana Deepthi, visited the station chief’s office to find an amicable solution to the 10-year road closure.
It has been decided tomorrow that a joint physical inspection of all roads will be carried out by the Colonel’s team and the DCP North Transport team to see which roads can be opened for public transport and which are sensitive roads. A decision will be made based on the findings of the above investigation.
“The need for public convenience and smooth transportation must be balanced with the security needs of military and defence installations in the camp area,” Anand said.
“We are also prepared to consider the public convenience aspect and revisit our position given the growth in population and vehicle traffic,” the brigadier general and stationmaster said.
The city police chief pledged to deploy more traffic personnel, patrol cars and patrols on these roads to ensure the safety of defense personnel. He also asked civilians to be patient and not to incite or politicize this work in progress so that a solution could be found in a friendly atmosphere.
