Independent candidate seeks to delay Munugode vote

Independent candidates claim the major parties are resorting to violence and breaches of polling codes to influence voters. Independent candidates claim the major parties are resorting to violence and breaches of polling codes to influence voters.

Hyderabad: About 27 independent candidates contesting the Munugode by-election on Wednesday appealed to the Election Commission of India (ECI) seeking to postpone the vote scheduled for Thursday. They claim the major parties are resorting to violence and violating polling codes to influence voters.

Independent candidates led by Kandadi Manipal Reddy, Raghuma Reddy and Bingi Ramulu met Chief Electoral Officer Vikas Raj in Hyderabad and presented a statement to postpone the election.

In an interview with the media, Manipal Reddy said the major parties were handing out money and alcohol to lure voters into mocking the democratic process. He claimed law and order in the constituency was also out of control, discouraging the people from voting peacefully.

Raghuma Reddy said they asked the ECI to postpone the by-election for 60 days, given the prevailing situation in Munugode. He called on voters to vote NOTA in case the ECI decides to go ahead.
