Hyderabad: Southern Regional Electricity Board Chairman D Prabhakar Rao has advised all states in the Southern region to plan ahead for the upcoming summer and rabies season.
As the peak demand in the southern region is expected to be at 65 GW in the coming summer and rabies season, countries should advance Plan well to take into account the constraints faced across the country at the same time last year due to severe coal shortages, sudden power outages and inability to exchange electricity.
On April 1 this year, the peak demand in the southern region reached 60,876 GW, while India’s peak demand was 2,12,000 MW, Prabhakar Rao informed. He suggested that, given the large-scale development of renewable energy, additional transmission networks must be planned very carefully with maximum coordination between the Central Transmission Utilities (CTU), the Ministry of New Renewable Energy (MNRE) and all countries, to achieve the ultimate goal. The goal of optimizing the interstate transmission network.
He further stated that there is an urgent need to automate load generation balancing using ancillary services, smart grids, tightening of frequency bands, and integration of battery storage systems into live grids, and that foolproof communication systems in the power sector are very important.
