Hyderabad: Relatives of two people who were declared brain dead by a team of participating neurologists donated the deceased’s organs under the Jiwandan government’s organ donation initiative.
On November 5, Pullani Annapurna, a 30-year-old housewife from Ethrajpally, Vikarabad, had convulsions. The housewife, suffering from epilepsy and cerebral edema, was taken to the local hospital in Vikarabad and then to the Banjara Hills Nursing Hospital. .
Despite four days of ICU care, her health did not improve, and neurologists declared Annapurna brain-dead on November 8. After grief counselling, her husband, Mannepally Sudharshan, and brother agreed to donate her organs. Both kidneys and liver were retrieved and assigned to a transplant center.
In another case, a relative of Yeddula Parameshwara Reddy, 48, a resident of Padidempadu village, suffered a stroke and was taken to a local hospital and later to Sunshine Hospital.
Despite 3 days of ICU care, his health did not improve and the neurologist declared him brain dead. After the consultation, the family agreed to donate his organs and retrieved two kidneys and a liver, which were assigned to the transplant center.
