Mumbai: Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan was stopped by customs detectives at Mumbai airport on Saturday for carrying several expensive watches and other high-priced knick-knacks, officials said.
Customs stopped Khan and others who were travelling with him from Sharjah to Mumbai because they had an Apple Watch and six other high-value gadgets in their luggage when they arrived on a private flight.
After a thorough search of their luggage by the air intelligence unit at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), expensive items worth approximately Rs 1.785 lakh were found.
Based on this valuation, Customs imposed a duty of Rs 6.83 lakh or about 38.5% on the actor and his team and allowed them to leave this afternoon.
The private flight landed at CSMIA from Sharjah at about 12.50am, where Khan had been for the Sharjah International Book Fair 2022.
On Friday, he was awarded the “Global Cinema and Cultural Narrative Icon Award” for his contributions to international culture and cinema.
