Speaking after Vidhana Soudha put a wreath on his statue on Pandit Nehru’s birthday, the Chief Minister said that Nehru loved children and his birthday was designated as Children’s Day.
Bangalore: First Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru owes the credit for elevating India to international level, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said here on Monday.
Speaking after Vidhana Soudha put a wreath on his statue on Pandit Nehru’s birthday, the Chief Minister said that Nehru loved children and his birthday was designated as Children’s Day.
Pandit Nehru worked closely with the “Father of the Nation” Mahatma Gandhi. He fully supported Gandhi in the country’s freedom struggle and worked hard for the country’s prosperity.
As the first prime minister of an independent country, he laid the foundation for development. Chief Minister Bomai said he worked in a commendable manner with General Tito at the international level for the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).
CM Bommai said India is still playing an important role in NAM. His birthday was designated as Children’s Day. Minister Harappa Achar, Chief Secretary Vandita Sharma and others were present.
