Co-ops should adopt new technologies to compete in a competitive world: NAFSCOB chair

At the meeting, the TSCAB chairman said that when technology reigns supreme, everyone still needs two full meals to survive.

Karimnagar: NAFSCOB Chairman Konduru Ravinder Rao emphasized the need for cooperatives to adopt new technologies and approaches to compete in a competitive world.

Rao, who kicked off the 69th National Cooperation Week celebrations from 14-20 November 2022, laid flowers on Monday with a portrait of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and in Karimnagar town The cooperation flag was raised at the main office of the DCCB in Karimnagar. The theme of the week-long celebration is “India@75: The Development and Future of Co-operatives”.

At the meeting, the TSCAB chairman said that when technology reigns supreme, everyone still needs two full meals to survive. “It is the farmers who provide the country with food, and the cooperative is happy to be associated with the farmers and help food production to meet the country’s needs,” he added.

He reminded that the United Nations also proclaimed the first Saturday of July each year as International Cooperative Day, and he said that the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) was celebrating its centenary. When the world fell into recession, the cooperatives protected the economies of Germany, the Netherlands, France and even India, he said.

He praised the DCCB’s service during the pandemic, saying it was the co-op sector’s employees who were the frontline fighters working in the field and sourcing farmers’ produce while the entire country was in lockdown. He added that there is no blockade by the cooperatives, they help procure food from farmers and contribute to the national economy.

He said the plenary meeting of the Network for the Development of Agricultural Cooperatives in Asia and the Pacific (NEDAC), which was established in Thailand by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, also highlighted the cooperative-to-cooperative global marketing facility to strengthen cooperatives. He welcomed the first Ministry of Union Cooperation and hoped to change cooperatives to strengthen cooperatives under the leadership of Union Minister Amit Shah.

Also present were DCO Srimala, Karimnagar DCCB CEO N Satyanarayana Rao, NABARD DDM P Ananth and P Manohar Reddy, CTI Instructor Venkateshwar, PDC Resource Officer G Satyanarayana, General Manager Prabhakar Reddy and Ushasri among others.

The Co-operative Week celebrations will be organized around the following themes; Co-operative Business Environment, GEM and Export Promotion (14 November), Cooperative Marketing, Consumers, Processing and Value Added (15 November), Mainstream Cooperative Education, Professional Management and Repositioning Training (November 16), Role of Cooperatives in Promoting Innovation, Promoting Startups and Technological Upgrading (November 17), Entrepreneurship Development and Strengthening Public-Private Partnerships (November 18), Youth, Women, Vulnerable and Health Cooperatives (November 19) Financial Inclusion, PACS Digitization and Strengthening Partnerships Database (November 20).
