Hyderabad: Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy announced on Monday that Secunderabad railway station will be upgraded and developed into a modern station at a cost of Rs 7 billion. Kishan Reddy, who visited Secunderabad Railway Station and reviewed the station redevelopment plan, told media here that Secunderabad Railway Station will soon have modern facilities and improved architectural design. “Our plan is to provide passengers with ultra-modern facilities at the station. We will strive to make the station the best in the state,” he said.
He further said that the project is being carried out in phases to avoid any disruption to train operations. He informed that Secunderabad station is being rebuilt to build an airport-like infrastructure to meet the needs of passengers for the next 40 years.
Explaining the station modernization project, the Union Minister said that the redevelopment plan of Secunderabad Railway Station includes modern passenger facilities, modern architecture, modern technology and comfort for all passengers. He said the redevelopment would be carried out in three phases, with the first phase to be completed in 16 months, the second in 28 months and the third in 36 months.
He informed that the new station building will have 26 elevators, 32 escalators and some moving walks to facilitate the movement of passengers within the station. Talking about the salient features of the project, Kishan Reddy said that a G 3-storey station building will be built on the north side, a G 3-storey station building and a double-storey sky lobby will be built on the south side. The new design of the station will ensure seamless movement of passengers from one mode to another, he said, adding that separate entrance and exit areas will be created for the convenience of passengers.
In addition, Kishan Reddy said pick-up and drop-off locations will be identified to avoid cross movement of arriving and departing passengers and vehicles. In addition, the station will have multi-storey and underground car park facilities to ensure smooth flow of vehicles, he said. The new station building will be equipped with modern facilities including electronic signage on all platforms for the convenience of commuters.
The Union Minister informed that the Center has approved the opening of a new workshop for the periodic overhaul of railway wagons in Kazipet.
Southern Central Railway (SCR) General Manager Arun Kumar Jain was also present at the event.
