Hyderabad: Chief Electoral Officer Vikas Raj announced on Wednesday that a special election registration drive will be organized in the state on November 26-27 and December 3-4 to enable people to register themselves be registered on the electoral roll.
The CEO held a meeting with party representatives and conducted an assessment of their ongoing Special Summary Revision (SSR) of the electoral rolls. During special registration events, block-level officials will receive application forms at polling places, he said. He said that since August 1, the SSR campaign has progressed smoothly and the list of recruits was announced on November 9. He further stated that citizens over the age of 18 can register on their own, and those over the age of 17 can also register in advance. He urged political parties to help encourage the linking of voter ID cards with Aadhar cards.
He further called on the political parties to appoint a booth agent (BLA) for their side. Representatives belonging to political parties such as BJP, TRS, TDP, MIM, CPI, CPI (M), YSRTP attended the meeting and presented their proposals for SSR activities. Among various proposals, political parties have asked for address-based searches of voters, determining the boundaries of polling stations by preparing nazri naksha maps for all polling stations, and providing details of PSEs that have been removed.
Additionally, the political parties have requested that BLOs be instructed to remain at their polling stations on special election days, to which the CEO stated that all DEOs/EROs have been instructed to do so.
