New Delhi: The campaign for the Gujarat Assembly poll and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections is in full swing.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is believed to have targeted Muslim appeasement and “love jihad” as part of its core agenda, targeting opposition parties.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is trying to triangulate the contest in Gujarat, with the main contest expected to be between the Congress and the BJP.
In the MCD election, the Congress Party is struggling to find lost ground in the contest between the BJP and the AAP.
Love jihad is one of the topics on the agenda of organizations associated with Sangh Parivar, along with the Saffron Party.
During the campaign, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma called for tough laws against love jihad and described Shraddha Walkar’s murder as a big issue involving women’s safety.
Sarma went on to say that killers like “Aaftab Amin Poonawalla” exist in every city and stressed the need for strong laws to combat love jihad to keep women safe.
Sarma is trying to send a message to voters that only a strong BJP government can protect them from crime.
Home Minister Amit Shah was also seen lashing out at Congress for the politics of appeasement. At an election rally in Gujarat, the Shah praised the Bhupendra Patel-led government’s move to remove “illegal” and “false” graves.
He applauded the Patel-led government for freeing the area from encroachment and curbing smuggling.
He asked the public whether fake graves and tombs should be removed. He said the BJP department in the state would continue to carry out such cleaning activities.
While claiming to make Gujarat a curfew-free state, the Shah accused Congress of promoting criminals and anti-social elements.
All the BJP leaders who have campaigned have been blaming Congress and the AAP for appeasement of particular communities.
Describing Shraddha Walkar’s murder as unfortunate, Union Minister Giriraj Singh claimed the jihadist plot was carried out under an Indian mandate.
While questioning the silence of some leaders like Rahul Gandhi, Asadudin Owaisi, Nitish Kumar and Ralu Prasad and their parties on love jihad, Singh urges citizens to think this problem.
BJP chairman JP Nadda on Saturday released the party manifesto for the Gujarat Assembly elections, promising to ensure full implementation of the Gujarat Uniform Civil Code Commission’s recommendation to implement a uniform civil code in the state.
Nadda went a step further, promising that after winning the state’s polls, an anti-radicalization team would be created to identify and neutralize potential threats, terrorist groups and sleeper cells.
Organizations such as Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Muslim Rashtriya Manch associated with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) have been strongly criticizing love jihad and planning public awareness campaigns to build culture and safety in homes across the country .
