Allen: Andrei Kramaric scored twice as Croatia shattered Canada’s hopes of qualifying for the World Cup for the first time in 36 years with a 4-1 win on Sunday.
Alphonso Davies scored Canada’s first-ever World Cup goal within seconds of the start, but the team’s tour of football’s biggest event comes to a close on Thursday against Morocco, who are in Group F The leaders, following a surprise 2-0 win over Belgium earlier in the day. Marko Livaja and Lovro Majer also scored for Croatia, runners-up to France at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Captain Luka Modric, 37, is still looking for his first goal in what could well be his last World Cup.
Morocco topped Group F by winning the World Cup for the first time since 1998. But the win means the Canadians need a win over Croatia to have a chance of reaching the knockout stages.
