doha: Brazil overcame the absence of Neymar to beat Switzerland 1-0 to advance to Monday’s World Cup round of 16.
Casemiro scored from inside the box in the 83rd minute to send Brazil through to the last 16 with one game remaining in Group G. Brazil striker Neymar suffered a right ankle injury in his opening game in Qatar and remained at the team’s hotel for treatment.
The team doctor hasn’t given a timetable for his return — or if he will. The victory gives Brazil six points from two games, while Switzerland have three.
Serbia and Cameroon, who were tied 3-3 earlier on Monday, have a point each. Switzerland need a win in their final game against Serbia to secure a spot for the next stage.
Depending on the game between Brazil and Cameroon, a draw might be enough.
