Bijapur: Security forces recovered the bodies of four Naxalites from Chhattisgarh state’s Bijapur district on Sunday, a police official said.

The encounter took place on November 26 in the Pomra forest under the confines of the Mirtur police station, when a joint team of security forces was conducting an anti-Naxal operation.

Security forces also recovered four weapons from their property, including a US-made 30M1 automatic carbine rifle among the four recovered from the Naxalites, according to a police official.

“It was used in World War II and the weapon had a firepower of 300 yards. Since it could fire 15 to 20 rounds at once it proved to be extremely deadly. This weapon was used by the U.S. in WWII, Vietnam and Korea It is widely used by soldiers,” Bijapur police chief Anjani said.

He further stated that the weapon was designed by David Marshall Williams between 1938 and 1941 and used between 1942 and 1973.

Earlier, a German-made rifle was also found following an encounter in the Maad area of Narayanpur.

The Naxalites, two men and two women, were killed in clashes with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Special Forces (STF).
