Hyderabad: At a recent global investor conference in Bengaluru, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said investment commitments worth Rs 98.2 trillion were made during the conference.
However, the reality is quite different, especially when considering the industrial units in Belgavi.
Many administrators in the Belgavi South constituency are reportedly considering transferring their units, citing reasons ranging from irregular power supply and insufficient water supply to poor road infrastructure and excessive delays in administrative procedures by the BJP-led state government.
A report quoted Parshuram Dage as saying that about 1,500 to 1,800 looms, including power looms and handlooms, have been relocated to the Shinnoli in Maharashtra is just 13 kilometers from Belgavi. Chairman, North Karnataka Nekarara Vedike (North Karnataka Weavers Forum).
Media reports also quoted Laghu Udyog Bharati (Small Industries) National Sector Chairman Sachin Sabnis as saying that the lack of good roads, electricity and water is delaying the procurement of materials and the supply of goods.
In a recent meeting, even the Belgaum Chamber of Commerce and Industry listed the problems faced by industrial units and said that many managers are planning to relocate to other places such as Goa. Interestingly, Belgavi South BJP MLA Abhay Patil was also invited to the meeting.
Conversely, in Telangana, businesses have welcomed the state’s industry-friendly policies, in addition to expressing interest in increasing investment. Kerala-based Kitex Group, for example, will soon start production at its factory in Kakatiya Textile Park, Warangal, a record 15 months after announcing the decision.
“We have invested Rs 3,000 crore in Telangana. In February, our factory in Warangal will start production. Our next factory will be completed in Hyderabad, where the government has allotted us 250 acres of land,” Kitex said. Group managing director Sabu Jacob said in an interview.
In the financial year 2022-23, 2,156 units under TS-iPASS were approved with a total investment of Rs 17,300 crore and more than 56,000 people employed. These are in contrast to other major investment announcements made by major companies such as Amazon, Amara Raja Batteries and others in the past few days.
