The state government pointed out that Telangana had not filed a similar application in court because it objected to several projects being carried out in Andhra Pradesh.
Hyderabad: Telangana on Thursday strongly objected to Andhra Pradesh’s application to the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal (KWDT-II) to suspend GO MS No 246 related to Palamuru Rangareddy’s enhanced irrigation scheme, saying the issue was beyond Andhra Pradesh The courts of jurisdiction and the Apex Commission are the appropriate forums for making such complaints.
Telangana raised preliminary objections to the sustainability of the application and the jurisdiction of the court to hear the application in light of section 84 of the AP Restructuring Act 2014. The state government pointed out that Telangana had not filed a similar application before the court against several projects in Andhra Pradesh. It said that Andhra Pradesh had lodged similar complaints about abuse of legal process in various forums including the National Green Tribunal (NGT), Supreme Court, High Court and Southern District Board, recalling that during the Supreme Council meeting in 2016, The Palamuru Rangareddy LIS project was considered but not directed to stop.
The tribunal has been given four weeks to file their responses, lodge preliminary objections and objections on the merits. Likewise, the court has given Andhra Pradesh two weeks thereafter to challenge the replies, if any, and published the application for argument on January 24.
