Mancherial: In order to fulfill his father’s long-cherished wish for many years and give back to the society, the government approved the construction of a crematorium on two acres of land in Luxetipet for the convenience of the local people, at a cost of nearly 6 million rupees.
P Ranga Rao is a road traffic officer in Peddapalli district and he is from Luxettipet township. Not only is Ranga Rao fulfilling a long-held dream of his father, Sathayarayana, but he is also giving the townspeople a respite by building a crematorium on the banks of the Godavari River. “My father, Sathyanarayana, a well-known lawyer in the town, had always dreamed of building a crematorium for the convenience of the locals. He started the process of creating the facility by asking the government for a land grant in 2012, but he died in 2015 However, I completed the structure in December 2020 thus fulfilling his dream,” Ranga Rao told Telangana Today. ‘
Rao said he built the crematorium with his own savings, as well as generous donations from family and relatives for a noble cause. He initially handed over the facility to the Luxettipet Municipality, but decided to run it by setting up a trust in memory of his father to ensure a better quality of service.
The crematorium has three blower-based platforms to burn bodies quickly and save money.
Facilities provided include bathrooms, showers, special rooms for storing cremated ashes, approximately 100 shade trees, fruit trees, and additional rooms for temporary housing for the homeless. Rao’s initiative has come in handy for residents by reducing the financial burden of performing end-of-life rites. Users do not need to pay any fees to use the facility. However, they should buy wood from local suppliers to cremate the bodies. About 100 bodies have been cremated at the facility so far, according to the trust.
