New Delhi: Twitter announced Sunday that it will relaunch and verify its Blue subscription service on Dec. 12 for $8 a month for Android users and $11 a month for iPhone users.
Musk has raised the price of a Twitter Blue subscription for iPhone users to $11 from $8, maintaining Apple’s 30 percent cut of revenue from iOS apps on its App Store.
“We’re relaunching @TwitterBlue on Monday – Subscribe for $8/month on the web, or $11/month on iOS for subscriber-only features, including the blue check mark,” the company said.
Subscribers will get edited tweets, 1080p video uploads, reader mode, and a blue checkmark (after their account has been moderated).
“We will begin replacing the ‘official’ labels for businesses with gold checkmarks and gray checkmarks for governments and multilateral accounts later this week,” the firm said.
Subscribers will be able to change their username, display name or profile picture, “but if they do, they will temporarily lose the blue checkmark until their account is reviewed again,” Twitter said.
Musk launched the verified Blue subscription program last month, but later delayed it amid huge controversy following the emergence of several fake accounts impersonating brands and celebrities on the platform.
He said the Weibo platform would relaunch its $8 Blue subscription service with verification from Nov. 29, this time more “rock-solid,” but delayed that to avoid Apple cutting App Store purchases 30% of.
Musk criticized the App Store cuts, calling them a “hidden 30% tax on the internet.”
Later, after a meeting with Apple CEO Tim Cook, Musk said they had “resolved” misunderstandings about the Weibo platform’s possible removal from the App Store.
