The dictionary also has two definitions with examples.
Hyderabad: Cambridge Dictionary has updated its definitions of “woman” and “man” to include those who identify as having a sex other than their biological sex.
The updated definition of “female” is “adults who live and identify as female, although they may be said to be of a different sex at birth” and “male” as “adults who live and identify as male, although they may be identified as Males “may be said to have been born with a different sex”.
The dictionary also has two definitions with examples. For ‘Woman’ the examples read — “She was the first trans woman elected to a national office” and “Mary is a woman who was assigned male at birth”.
“Mark is a transgender (= a man who is said to have been born female). And “their doctors encouraged them to live as men for a while before undergoing surgery”, read the example of “men”.

Revised definitions were reportedly included in October. However, these updated meanings have now come under heavy criticism on social media, with people calling on Cambridge Dictionaries to include the words “transgender man” and “transgender woman” instead.
“Cambridge Dictionaries just changed the definition of ‘woman’. Remember, if you can control the language, you can control the population,” wrote one user. “There is also a new definition of squirrel: a person who lives and identifies as a squirrel, although may be considered something else (sic) at birth,” read another comment.
I’m not transgender anyway @CambridgeWords Might say! I guess you’re not a dictionary anymore, Cambridge. Maybe we can redefine you as a Cambridge novel?
