New York: An Indian-American physicist has been named to Teen Vogue’s annual 21 Under 21 list of changemakers, influencers, activists and artists who have had a significant impact on their communities and the world.
The multi-hyphenated Sridevi Krothapalli is one of “21 Revolutionary Youth” who “overcome adversity, make positive change, and spread joy while they do so.” During these 17 years, Sridevi made major advances in the fields of science and art.
According to her LinkedIn profile, she is a high school student at the Illinois Academy of Mathematics and Science with a “very interest” in the fields of substance abuse, endocrinology and astrophysics.
Sridevi, described by Teen Vogue as a “physics professional,” was selected to participate in the Stanford Initiative to Inspire the Next Generation of Women in Physics, sponsored by Stanford’s Department of Physics and the Kavli Institute for Particle Astrophysics and Cosmology.
She told Teen Vogue: “By applying coding skills to physics-based projects in environmental engineering and mentoring other students in my community on physics-oriented topics, I realized my ambition to break down the gender gap in physics and math.”
“I hope to improve the lives of others around the world through scientific discoveries,” the high school senior added.
Additionally, her gifts in the arts, literature, and philanthropy made her aware of her contributions to other causes.
She founded and continues to chair Kahani, a student-led nonprofit organization that distributes literary and arts magazines to children’s hospitals around the world so patients can read them.
The magazine inspires children’s creativity while in the hospital through colorful art, stories and poems.
“For me, kindness and love have always been a guiding force to speak out and inspire positive change,” Sri Devi said.
