Hyderabad: After the municipal traffic police pilot, the diversion of motor vehicles at No. 45 Yinxishan Road may be retained.
Traffic diversions were implemented at and near 45 Jubilee Hill Road to avoid conflict and to divert traffic on busy stretches of road. The decision was made after traffic officials noticed motorists were spending more time on road segments and came up with diversions to reduce their travel time and slow traffic.
Traffic officers closed several “U” turns between the Jubilee Hills checkpoint – junction of Route 45 – Filmnagar and nearby locations. However, as motorists expressed dissatisfaction with the move, they launched a study to assess the impact of the diversion and how it would benefit commuters. This field study found that forced diversions proved beneficial for commuters. “Compared to the previous commute from Jubilee Hills checkpoint to Durgam Cheruvu cable bridge, it takes less time now. The diversion has proven to be beneficial to a large extent,” said a traffic police official.
Traffic officers equipped with stopwatches drive along stretches of road where diversions are implemented during peak and off-peak traffic hours and note the travel time required to get from one place to another.
Previously, motorists traveling to the Cable Bridge from the KBR Park Junction had to wait a considerable amount of time at the Jubilee Hills checkpoint signal, and spent even more time pulling out of traffic, waiting again at Junction 45, and crossing Heavy traffic. “Travel time has been reduced by a few minutes. We now have data. After research, some changes have been made. Senior officials will make a decision in a day or two whether to proceed,” the source added, with the main aim of reducing traffic from Jubilee Hill Checkpoint moved to 36 Jubilee Hill Road.
