Nagarkurnool: This New Year, those visiting the Amrabad Tiger Reserve (ATR) can look forward to safari rides in specially designed open vehicles and stays in beautiful lodges, including treetop huts and mud huts.
The new facility is likely to be officially inaugurated by Forestry Minister A Indrakaran Reddy on January 10.
To add even more joy to the safari, the forest department has introduced eight new convertibles. Likewise, the Community Ecotourism Center (CBEC) in Mananur is constructing six new lodges to ensure comfortable accommodation for tourists. The treetop cabin will be a special attraction and is expected to be a hit with the children. Visitors staying at the huts will have the chance to witness wildlife, mainly sika deer, quench their thirst in percolation ponds in nearby forests, a senior official said.
In addition to the existing five vehicles, ATR officials have unveiled eight more vehicles for safari. Likewise, six new lodges are being built to accommodate more visitors.
Since the launch of the safari rides in ATR, demand has been very high from day one. As demand is still increasing, ATR officials are now improving facilities, especially accommodation for tourists.
To further make the safari rides more exciting and adventurous for visitors, the Forest Department is developing two additional safari routes within the reserve. Now, ATR officials are developing a new route starting at the end of Umamaheswaram temple and Kollam route.
Currently, tourists enter the forest through the Farahabad gate and leave through the Gundam gate. The entire journey is about 50 kilometers, of which 20 kilometers are in the forest. During the three-hour ride, visitors will also have the opportunity to witness the Chenchu huts and their way of life.
“Our idea is to make tourists feel more comfortable and excited. Not just spotting wild animals, our focus will be on raising awareness about tiger conservation,” the official said.
In addition to the ATR, Kawal Tiger Reserve has also sourced five new convertibles for safari within its limits. However, the department may revise accommodation fees and safari rides. This is mainly due to rising fuel prices.
The Mannanur Community Ecotourism Center is providing visitors with additional cabins and more facilities.
