A Dubai court orders an Indian man to pay Dh80,000 in blood money to families of two women in Saudi Arabia

Dubai: A Dubai court has ordered a man of Indian origin to pay Dh80,000 in blood money to the families of two Saudi Arabian women who were killed in a car accident in June.
A 48-year-old Indian man drove recklessly in the residential neighborhood of Al Barsha on June 3, killing two women and injuring four others, the Dubai Traffic Court has heard.
The Indian national missed a car backing up in the middle of the main road and crashed into it, The National reported. The two vehicles then crashed into a third vehicle, which contained a family from Saudi Arabia. Two women died at the scene and four other family members suffered minor injuries.
The Indian and another driver of the car from Bangladesh were charged with wrongful death, causing injury and damaging each other’s cars.
The Indian, who denies all charges against him, was fined Dh2,000 on Monday and ordered to pay Dh80,000 in blood money to the victim’s family.
The court revoked the Bangladeshi’s driver’s license for three months and ordered him to pay a Dh10,000 fine and Dh320,000 in blood money.
Hassan Elhais, legal counsel at Al Rowaad law firm, told The National: “Blood money payments come into effect when you are found responsible for causing someone’s death.” Elhais said it Most commonly used in traffic accidents that result in fatalities.
