Hyderabad: A major milestone in the field of medical education, Telangana now has 19 MBBS medical seats covering a population of 100,000, the highest in the country. For a population of about 3.51 crores, Telangana has a total of 6,690 MBBS seats, which is the highest percentage of medical seats in the country for a population of 100,000.
It is followed by Karnataka with 17.91 MBBS seats for a population of 100,000, followed by Tamil Nadu with 15.35 and Gujarat with 10.67 medical seats for a population of 100,000.
In fifth place is Maharashtra with 8.9 MBBS medical seats and Andhra Pradesh with 6.60 medical seats and a population of 100,000. Uttar Pradesh has a population of 200 million and provides 4.58 MBBS medical seats for a population of 100,000.
“Due to the vision and proactive measures of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, Telangana is now ahead in providing a large number of MBBS seats for a population of 100,000. Apart from 6,690 medical seats, Telangana state has 2,544 PG seats which is the largest number of seats in the country. The second highest seat,” state Health Minister T Harish Rao said on Tuesday.
