‘Mana Ooru-Mana Badi’ brings new life to government schools in Telangana

Among the education sector’s many initiatives, the government’s flagship project ‘Mana Ooru-Mana Badi’ helps transform public schools

'Mana Ooru-Mana Badi' brings new life to government schools in Telangana

A total of 26,072 government and local body schools are undergoing major renovation as part of the ‘Mana Ooru Mana Badi’ programme.

Hyderabad: Looking at the brand new furniture including double desks for students, funky classrooms with paintings, dining room and more, many would think this is a company or an international school. But actually, the Aliya Government Model Primary School in Hyderabad has been transformed under the ‘Mana Ooru-Mana Badi/Mana Basti-Mana Badi’ scheme.

The “Mana Ooru-Mana Badi” scheme, the state government’s flagship program to comprehensively develop and strengthen public school infrastructure, was officially launched this year by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao at ZP High School (Boys) in Wanaparthy, injecting new leasehold life into government schools .

A total of 26,072 government and local sports schools are undergoing a phased major renovation of 12 components as part of the programme. The content includes toilet running water, electrification, drinking water supply, furniture, school-wide painting, green blackboard, composite wall, kitchen shed, dilapidated school building, high school canteen, digital education implementation, etc. .

In the first phase of the scheme, the state government has carried out works in 9,123 schools at an estimated cost of Rs 3,497.62 crore. Among these schools, 97.8% of the projects have received administrative penalties, and 82.41% of the schools have been suspended.

Apart from improving the infrastructure of schools, the Department of School Education has also used technology to introduce app-based geographic attendance for both staff and non-teaching staff in government and local body schools, doing away with the age-old practice of marking attendance in school registers.

Apart from the existing 405 government junior colleges, the state government has established a government vocational junior college and a government junior college in Qutbullapur and Meerpet respectively. These colleges have had a huge admissions response.

The state government has also approved the establishment of a government model residential polytechnic in Manuguru, Bhadradri Kothagudem district. Administrative approval was also issued for the opening in principle of a new government degree college in Makthal, Narayanpet district from this year.

First Women’s University

Telangana established its first women’s college this year, and the government issued an order to upgrade Osmania University College for Women to Telangana Mahila Viswavidyalayam (Women’s College).

Osmania University has made a major change to the credit system for PG courses by reducing the number of credits for this academic year from 96 to 80. The university also approved the introduction of the teaching-by-practice concept, enabling the college to employ industry experts as faculty members. Nizam College has opened a new female dormitory, and this year the university has laid the foundations for a 500-seat male dormitory at an estimated cost of Rs 395 crore.

JNTU-Hyderabad

Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU)-Hyderabad has abolished the strict admission system and started a dual degree option comprising engineering courses and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Data Analytics. It has also launched a self-funded category BBA in Data Analytics with 60 seats at the School of Management Studies at the JNTU-Hyderabad campus. Apart from this, the government this year issued an order to establish JNTU Engineering College in Wanaparthy.

This year, the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Telangana Backward Classes Welfare Residential Educations Institutions Society launched a number of institutions that cater to the needs of the state’s BC community. The state government has established 33 boarding schools, four specialist colleges, 14 degree colleges and two agricultural degree colleges specifically for women, bringing the total number of BC welfare boarding institutions to 310, providing quality free education to 1,65,160 students educate.

Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society has launched several new courses in its colleges, offering students the opportunity to choose different career options this year. In addition to the MSc in Integrated Economics, the Society offers BA International Relations, BA Public Policy, BA Informatics, and BA (Honours) Fashion and Design, to great response from students.

Students of the Association of Telangana Tribal Welfare Boarding Educational Institutions made headlines this year when they secured seats in the country’s leading institutions. A total of 142 students joined IITs and IITs, while another 51 students entered the country’s top medical schools.

The Telangana Minority Residential Education Institutions Association students have doubled this year through various national and state entrance exams. A total of 3,267 people passed the qualifying exams out of which 17 sat for the JEE Main exam and 1 for the JEE Advanced exam which are considered the most difficult exams. In the previous academic year, a total of 1,535 students passed various entrance examinations.
