Hyderabad: It was a chilly Sunday night and the roof of Sacred Earth Cafe in Madhapur was packed with people, lights and greenery.
Open mic host Rachana Rajasthani, also a poet, made the evening captivating with her shayaris.
“Koi chehra jana pehechana, koi chehra hai yahan anjana, mehfil ka jaadu chhane do, kar doongi sabko deewana”. Needless to say, the audience went “Whoah!”
At the age of eleven, Nitya began to amaze people by reciting poetry effortlessly. There was applause and appreciation from the roof.
Open mic in the cafe is organized on the third Sunday evening of every month, with singers performing songs in Hindi, Telugu and English. It’s a jolt of memories, as everyone feels the nostalgia the music evokes.
Bhoomika, a former employee of the café, launched the open mic in October 2021 with the idea of hosting large-scale events in the wake of the pandemic that would bring like-minded people together.
Open mic organizer and singer Dhruv Gupta believes that Open mic is a day for performers to relax and break out of routine. “Entertainers often come here to perform because they don’t think the event has a commercial angle,” he said.
Singer Akanksha Basu said, “Personally, I haven’t performed in two years and I’m scared out of my wits. But, the audience is great and the space is so open and spiritual.”
Sacred Earth Cafe also organizes other events including Full Moon Tea Ceremony, Classical Music Nights, Sound Healing Workshops, Tarot Card Readings, Stand-up Comedy, Improv and various other workshops.
The idea is to bring young talent to the fore while encouraging them to let go of their fears and delve into art, food and music – all under one roof.
