Hyderabad: National Planning Commission Vice-Chairman B Vinod Kumar said an action plan will be developed and implemented to further strengthen the Department of Economics and Statistics and the Planning Department at the field level.
A group of officials led by Economics and Statistics Director General G Dayanand met Vinod Kumar here on Sunday.
During the meeting, the Deputy Chairman of the State Planning Commission discussed the directive issued by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao to strengthen the economic, statistical and planning sectors. Vinod Kumar told officials that the Chief Minister noted that the Economic and Statistics Department and the Planning Department were playing an active role and directed measures to strengthen these institutions.
Vinod Kumar pointed out that the plans and policies currently being followed by these ministries are satisfactory and highlighted the need to appoint some IAS officers and some state officials in the economic statistics and planning ministries to improve their efficiency. To that end, he wants officials to prepare proposals for institutional strengthening from the order to the state level.
G Dayanand, director general of the Department of Economics and Statistics, said that each year, the Department of Economics and Statistics releases numerous publications along with details of state government programmes, development and welfare schemes and other data.
He briefed on the need to visit Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Rajasthan to study different aspects. In response, Vinodkumar wants officials to come up with an action plan on related issues.
