Hyderabad: The Department of Transportation is studying the possibility of a new test drive lane in the city. Although there are already other tracks in the five districts of Hyderabad, most applicants, even those from far away, will be sent to the test drive track in Nagor for their tests.
It is understood that officials from the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) are now looking for government land to build new tracks to meet the needs of citizens.
Currently, those applying for a driver’s license (DL) and others applying to renew their driver’s license must take a driving test at the track in Nagole.
Those who apply for a test drive have reserved parking spaces in advance on the website of the Transport Department, but in most cases there are huge crowds of people, testing the patience of the applicants.
Many women and young girls came to test their driver’s licenses. It is reported that officials under pressure completed the test in five minutes.
Sources said the transport sector authority intends to set up four to five driving test tracks in Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy district and Medchal-Malkajgiri and under the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).
They are inspecting about 2 acres of vacant government land, a relatively small area, in Uppal and Nagole, which could be used to build driveways in the coming years.
Whereas for Attapur and Ibrahimpatnam RTAs, lane facilities are set up at Kondapur and Manneguda, while RTAs from LB Nagar and surrounding areas may take a long time to reach Manneguda.
For the Medchal-Malkajgiri RTA restriction, the carriageway is at Uppal, Nagole and Petbasheerabad. Going to Petbasheerabad Proving Ground for driving test is a task for applicants from Medchal and surrounding areas.
Once transportation officials are able to identify the government land, they will apply for the relevant permits from the government and build the lanes in 2023, the sources said.
