Hyderabad: Never in the recent past has the threat to federalism been as serious as it is now under the NDA regime. Now an anti-BJP alternative needs to be created at the national level to save the soul of India. Unfortunately, a divided opposition, lack of a common agenda, and cohesion among right-wing political challengers have all contributed to the consolidation of community power in the country. However, a new chapter has opened in Indian politics as the Election Commission agreed to the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), a development that is sure to rewrite the history of the nation’s politics.
Telangana’s pioneering journey has been marked by innovative and impactful benefits programs and comprehensive development with the potential to be replicated nationwide. As the founder of the nation-building movement in Telangana and the man who transformed the new state into a development model, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao is well positioned to lead a political movement at the state level and be a catalyst for change. Through a range of welfare and development initiatives, Telangana represents the triumph of optimism over prophecies of doom, and perseverance over skepticism. Once BRS wins public mandate, its flagship program has won accolades from several central agencies and could be replicated in other states in the future.
We live in challenging times. On the one hand, the core values of federalism are threatened by the BJP-led NDA government’s systematic attempts to usurp the rights of the states and weaken the autonomy of the constitutional institutions, while on the other hand, politics and hatred in pursuit of community polarization are weakening the very fabric of our society and secular basis. There is growing frustration and frustration, especially among young people, that the country is being led down the wrong path.
For a party that single-handedly achieved statehood and put Telangana on a high-growth trajectory, foraying into national politics was a natural progression. People are now looking for a qualitative change in politics to ensure social justice and faster growth. Given the BRS’s mission to forge new national coalitions based on an alternative policy agenda, it is expected that the timely launch of the BRS will generate optimism and hope across the country.
