Hyderabad: Students in more government and local body schools will start learning vocational skills this academic year, in addition to their regular academic programmes.
As part of Samagra Shiksha, the Department of School Education has decided to implement vocational education in 42 government and local body schools in the state. Vocational education is currently provided in 292 government and local body schools in the state.
As part of vocational education, nine courses will be introduced, including electronics and hardware, IT-ITeS, clothing, agriculture, plumbing, beauty and health, automobiles, sports, tourism and hospitality.
However, each of the 42 schools will offer only two courses. For example, Edibazar’s Public High School (Boys) will offer IT-ITE and Automotive courses. Upon completion of these courses, students are expected to enter the tertiary positions of domestic data entry operator and automotive service technician respectively.
These courses are for students in Classes IX and X, who may choose any one of these courses. In addition to practical training, students must sit for an examination administered by the Government Examinations Board.
“In these new schools, it will be implemented in Class IX and it will continue in Class X,” an official said.
To ensure quality training for students, these programs will be delivered by Vocational Training Partners (VTPs), which are part of the National Skills Development Corporation (NSDC). The identification process for VTP and school assignments has been completed in coordination with NSDC at the state level. These VTPs will recruit vocational trainers and bring them into schools to start vocational courses this school year.
All district education officials have been directed to inform school principals of the implementation of vocational education. They were also required to supervise and support the implementation of vocational education in 42 newly established schools.
