Airport Metro project: Soil bearing capacity tests to begin Monday
Hyderabad: Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) MD, NVS Reddy said on Monday that after alignment and completion of pile markings for the Airport Metro project restoration, soil testing has started to ascertain the soil bearing capacity.
The soil testing work will be carried out for about 2 months at 100 subway pillar locations, starting from IKEA and ending at Sharm Shabad International Airport.
The soil testing process involved collecting soil samples from boreholes approximately 40 feet from the road surface at each location. NVS Reddy said soil carrying capacity would be determined through field testing of soil samples and laboratory testing.
The senior official said the foundation design would require a detailed soil survey and the results would also determine other aspects such as the type of foundation, i.e. open foundation or piled foundation, required foundation depth, allowable bearing pressure, etc. Further, these results will also guide bidders in evaluating their competitive prices, as this will give them a fair understanding of soil conditions.
The soil testing work will be completed within two months and is a process parallel to bid preparation and other pre-construction activities, overseen by the HAML engineering team led by Principal Project Manager B. Anand Mohan and Principal Engineer Y. Sayapa Reddy.
NVS Reddy added that all precautionary measures, including proper barricades at soil survey sites, information on the presence of underground utilities, traffic management, etc., are being coordinated with utilities and traffic police.
