Arjun’s debut caused quite a stir on social media. While many fans and cricketers, including Saurav Ganguly, Harbhajan Singh and Irfan Patel, congratulated the 23-year-old on his long-awaited debut, others’ praise was limited to judging his game, and Some got involved in the nepotism debate.
“Arjun Tendulkar despite being a cricket god, Sachin Tendulkar’s son had to wait 2 years to make his debut, he was happy to be a net bowler and support the team as a sailor. I know people will call it nepotism, But it wasn’t easy for Arjun to debut, (sic),” said one user. “The pressure on #ArjunTendulkar must be very high. Just wish him the best. #SachinTendulkar (sic),” said another.

nice to see #ArjunTendulkar get a game. If he doesn’t perform well, hope the Anti Nepo fan brigade leave him alone and don’t compare to pani puri selling players. #MIvsKKR

Arjun has been part of the franchise for the past two years as he was selected for a reserve price of Rs 20 lakh ahead of the 2021 IPL. He was acquired by MI for a total of Rs 30 lakh in the 2022 IPL Mega Auction. Notably, he is also a left arm seamer who is proficient at the bat.
Apart from Arjun’s debut, this was Surya Kumar Yadav’s debut as Mumbai Indians captain after Rohit Sharma opted out of the game due to a stomach ailment. The India captain, although named as a substitute, could be an impact player. MI are currently ninth in the standings with a win from three games and KKR are fifth with two wins and two losses.
