Amaravati: The rebel MLA of Andhra Pradesh’s ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) joined the opposition Telugu Desan Party (TDP) on Friday.
Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy, a member of the Legislative Assembly from Nellore constituency, joined the TDP in the company of party chairman and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
Sridhar Reddy, his brother Giridhar Reddy and their followers arrive at Mangalagiri in a large gathering attended from Nellore After the party office joined the TDP.
Chandrababu Naidu got Sridhar and Giridhar into TDP by offering them yellow kanduva. He expressed his appreciation to Giridhar for always serving the people. TDP chairman said Giridhar Reddy resigned as chairman of YSRCP Seva Dal.
In his speech, Giridhar Reddy thanked Chandrababu Naidu for making him part of the TDP family. He said he decided to join TDP after consulting all his followers and well-wishers. He also said that the country needs the leadership of Chandrababu Naidu.
Giridhar Reddy is also confident that TDP will win all 10 parliamentary seats in Nellore district in the next election. Sridhar Reddy joined the TDP a day after he voted for the TDP candidate from the MLA quota in the Legislative Council election.
The YSRCP suffered a shock defeat in one of seven seats on Thursday’s ballot. TDP’s Panchumarthi Anuradha won the seat with 23 votes, one more than needed. Two MLAs from the YSRCP cross-voted to help TDP win the seat.
Besides Sridhar Reddy and another rebel Anam Ramnarayan Reddy, Mekapati Chandrasekhar Reddy and Undavalli Sridevi are also believed to have voted for the TDP.
Like Sridhar Reddy and Anam Ramnarayan Reddy, Chandrasekhar Reddy is also from Nellore district. Sridevi is an MLA from Tadikonda, Guntur District. Sridhar Reddy raised a banner against the YSRCP last month and caused a stir by claiming his phone was tapped to receive orders from higher ups.
He claimed the phone taps began after he asked people’s questions and spoke about roads, drinking water and other civic issues in his constituency. He said the phone hacking would not have been possible without an order from the Chief Minister.
