Hyderabad: Apple prices in Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh have plummeted after the market flooded this season from Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.
On average, a good quality apple costs Rs 15 while a dozen apples cost only Rs 1. 180 and premium apples at 18 rupees each. Regular quality sells for around Rs 10 per piece.
Batasingaram Marketing Secretary Ch. Naseemha Reddy. About 20 to 25 trucks of apples arrive every day, leading to a plentiful supply of apples, which in turn leads to a drop in prices.
“Since last week, the Kashmiri variety apples have started to arrive and prices have dropped significantly. This trend will continue into the next few days,” Reddy said.
A truck carries between 600 and 1,000 boxes of apples, and the fruit destined for the city comes from the Shimla, Kahau-Spiti, Mandi, Kinnaur, Chamba and Kullu districts of Himachal Pradesh. Apart from this, Kashmiri grown varieties are found in all parts of the valley and sourced by local wholesalers.
“Prices have been reduced by Rs 200 and Rs 400 per box this year. The benefits are automatically passed on to the buyers due to lower prices due to more arrivals. People will continue to enjoy the advantage of good supply until the first week of December, said Mohd Tajuddin, a commission agent at MJ Market.
Varieties such as Kulu Delicious, Kinor, Jonthon, Maharaji, BalgariaTrel, Dodhi Ambri, Chari Ambri, Walayati Ambri and Mah Ambri are grown in the valley. In Himachal Pradesh, the widely grown premium apple varieties are Royal Delicious, Dark Baron Gala, Scarlet Spur, Red Velox and Golden Delicious.
Pricing is basically done after picking the fruit from the crate. “Bigger varieties are more expensive, while others sell for less. However, the overall price of the fruit is lower,” said Moinuddin, a fruit supplier in Afzalgunj.
