San Francisco: Tech giant Apple is reportedly developing a new in-house chip that could provide cellular, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities to its devices.
According to Bloomberg, The Verge reports that the iPhone maker is also working on alternatives to the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chips it currently uses from Broadcom, and plans to start integrating them into devices by 2025.
Additionally, the tech giant is working to develop its own cellular modem to replace Qualcomm’s modems.
The company expects to use its own modems in “late 2024 or early 2025.”
“For Apple product revenue, we now expect the 2023 iPhone launch to account for the vast majority of 5G modem share, up from our previous 20% assumption. Other than that, there are no changes to our planning assumptions, which assume Apple product revenue in The contribution in FY25 was minimal,” Qualcomm spokeswoman Claire Conley said in a statement.
It is unclear when the cellular, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chips will be integrated into the iPhone, the report said.
