San Francisco: Tech giant Apple is reportedly working on a new version of its Apple Store app that will offer augmented reality (AR) shopping on iPhones.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the feature could allow customers to point their iPhone at a product like a Mac in an Apple Store and immediately receive details like its price and specs in an on-screen overlay, MacRumors reported.
Gurman said the iPhone maker has been working on the feature since at least 2020 and has been testing it in stores in recent months.
However, it is unclear when the company will roll out this feature.
“If the service debuts in the near future, it will be one of Apple’s most significant AR-related announcements — and the experience with the headset — to date,” Gurman wrote.
He also said the tech giant is planning to release an application programming interface (API) for developers so that other retail outlets can also use the feature, the report said.
Meanwhile, earlier this week, it was reported that the company was developing a new in-house chip that could provide cellular, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth functionality to its devices.
The iPhone maker is also working on replacements for the Broadcom Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chips it currently uses, and plans to start integrating them into devices in 2025.
