San Francisco: Apple is reportedly planning to release a new feature that will turn a locked iPhone into a smart home-style display with iOS 17.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, when the phone is locked and held horizontally, its interface will display information such as calendar appointments, weather and notifications.
Gurman also mentioned that the interface works similarly to smart home devices from Google and Amazon.
Additionally, the report mentions that the feature will utilize a combination of dark backgrounds and bright text to improve readability even at a distance.
While Gurman claimed that Apple is working on bringing this smart home feature to the iPad, he noted that the company won’t be bringing the feature to the iPad as quickly as it has with the iPhone because the iPhone’s lock screen widget isn’t yet available on the iPad.
The report further stated that the tech giant plans to make major changes to the iPhone’s Wallet app with iOS 17 and will enhance its location services.
Meanwhile, Apple has released the iOS 16.5 software update to all users, which includes a new feature — a “Sports tab” in its News app.
The new iOS 16.5 is available for iPhone 8 and later.
The new tab is the hub for scores, game schedules, and articles about the user’s favorite sports teams.
