District Police Inspector-General Deepika briefed the media on Saturday, saying the main accused, Venkata Naidu and his men Ganapati, Mohan and Rama Ramaswamy has been detained. They murdered teacher Egiredi Krishna because he allegedly created obstacles to their political advancement, she said.
Venkata Naidu’s family, who were involved in the construction of the Vuddavolu village government building in the Terlam mandal of the district, borrowed Rs 20 crore to finance the projects. However, she revealed that they thought Teacher Krishna was stopping to pay the bills and thus killed him.
“There was a rivalry between the main defendants, Venkata Naidu and teacher Krishna, which led to the murder. They both belonged to rival parties in the past but have now moved to the ruling party,” she said .
Deepika also said that the accused carried out reconnaissance and murdered him. As Krishna was riding to school on his two-wheeler on Saturday morning, they chased him in a large vehicle and beat him. She revealed that they later beat him with an iron rod and killed him.
There was tension in the village when Krishna’s family stormed into Venkata Naidu’s home. After the police arrived at the scene, they took away the family members of the defendant through the back door. The situation in the village is under control, the SP said.
