Hyderabad: AST Space Mobile, Inc. (NASDAQ:ASTS) on Monday announced the opening of a new research and development service center and space technology development center in Hyderabad.
The state-of-the-art facility will focus on next-generation hardware, software, space-related technologies and operations. The new facility will be led by technology and aerospace industry veteran Narayana Pidugu, who joined the company earlier this year as general manager and vice president of global R&D services.
“India has very talented engineers in both hardware and software. The country has also pioneered work in space, satellites and telecommunications,” Pidugu said.
The Hyderabad base, located in a technology park in the Knowledge City of Salarpuria Sattva, is expected to house a research and development lab, network operations center and engineering space.
AST Space Mobile technology is designed to extend the reach of wireless companies, filling gaps and blind spots in their networks. This could help bring cellular broadband service to the hundreds of millions of people around the world who still do not have access to reliable cellular service.
