Mumbai: India’s Board of Control for Cricket on Saturday rejected claims that it had agreed to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) hybrid model for the upcoming 2023 Asian Cup, sources said.
According to Pakistani media, the BCCI has agreed to the PCB’s hybrid model for continental cricket. This format means that India’s matches are played at neutral venues such as the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Sri Lanka, United Kingdom (UK) or Bangladesh.
Sources provided to ANI by the BCCI denied that the board had accepted a hybrid model for the 2023 Asian Cup. It also said that the BCCI had invited Sri Lanka Cricket Council (SLC) and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officials to watch the 2023 Indian Premier League match between the Gujarat Titans and the Titans in Ahmedabad on Sunday. Final match between Chennai Super Kings. The Asian Cup decision will be made after the IPL final.
Also, the BCCI source added that the venue for the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup will be decided after the IPL final, which will be held entirely in India for the first time ever.
Earlier, the Sri Lanka Cricket Association (SLC) and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) backed the BCCI to move this year’s Asian Cup out of Pakistan. Last year, BCCI secretary Jay Shah announced that India would not travel to the 2023 Asian Cup, which will be hosted by Pakistan and will be held at a neutral venue.
Najam Sethi, chairman of the PCB management board, has called for a rational approach to address the crisis in the country hosting the Asian Cup. The PCB has come up with a hybrid model under which India could play at neutral venues such as the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Sri Lanka, Bangladesh or the United Kingdom (UK) or Bangladesh while the other games are played in Pakistan.
