Kota Gooden: In a major achievement, the Department of Pediatrics at the Bhadrachalam Government District Hospital, Kothagudem District has received quality accreditation under the MusQan scheme initiated by the National Health Mission (NHM).
Union Health and Family Welfare Joint Secretary Vishal Chauhan recently wrote to Telangana Health and Family Welfare Secretary SAM Rizvi on this. Apart from the government district hospital, Bhadrachalam CHC Ameerpet in Hyderabad has also received quality accreditation.
Regional Hospital Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Dr Y Rajashekhar Reddy told Telangana Today that NHM’s team of National Quality Assurance Standard (NQAS) assessors had visited the hospital on April 21-22 to assess the hospital’s facilities and service. The hospital met all quality criteria with an overall score of 83%.
He explained that MusQan aims to ensure that government hospitals provide quality child-friendly services to reduce preventable neonatal and child morbidity and mortality. It also includes all key aspects of a child’s growth and development.
Dr Reddy, who is also in charge of hospital MusQan, revealed that the Department of Pediatrics at Bhadrachalam Government District Hospital is the only hospital in South India to be certified for quality in all four departments, namely Pediatric Outpatient Department, Pediatric Ward, Special Neonatal Care Unit (SNCU) and Nutritional Rehabilitation Center (NRC).
“This is a remarkable achievement considering that the District Hospital is located in a remote institutional area of the state and has achieved national accreditation by meeting all the quality standards of NQAS. Each department will receive Rs. ) annual cash awards. These funds will be used to fill gaps, if any, in the facility,” he noted.
ITDA Program Officer Gautham Potru expressed his delight at the district hospital’s national quality accreditation and commended the doctors and staff. He urged them to continue to provide quality and caring treatment to the residents of the proxy village.
Notably, Bhadrachalam Government District Hospital has been awarded three times in 2016 (1st Prize), 2018 (2nd Prize) and 2023 (1st Prize) for its cleanliness, hygiene, waste management and infection control measures Kayakalp Award.
