Lahore: Punjab police may launch a “major operation” to arrest “terrorists” allegedly hiding in Pakistan Justice Instigation (PTI) chief Imran Khans Zaman’s park in Lahore.
According to the police, all roads leading to Zaman Park have been blocked and there is a heavy presence of law enforcement in the area, Geo News reported.
The Punjab state government has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to PTI to hand over “terrorists” who took refuge in the home of the former prime minister.
The ultimatum ends at 2pm on Thursday.
According to Geo News, sources said that the “big operation” may be launched after the deadline.
According to sources, the Punjab Police Commissioner and the Capital City Police Office (CCPO) have asked the police to remain “vigilant”.
Punjab Caretaker Information Minister Amir Mir said on Wednesday night that the provincial government had no current plans to arrest Khan.
“Let the 24-hour deadline expire first, and then the government will announce its plans,” the provincial minister said.
The minister’s comments came hours after the PTI chief expressed fears that he would be arrested, Geo News reported.
“Probably my last tweet before my next arrest. Police have (sic) surrounded my house,” the PTI chief, who was sacked last April, said in a tweet.
Amir Mir added that Khan was instigating people, “as always”.
Information minister says PTI chief is ‘lying’.
At a press conference earlier in the day, the minister gave PTI a 24-hour deadline to hand over the “30-40 terrorists who took refuge” at the Lahore residence of the former prime minister to the police.
