Hyderabad: Bharatiya Janatha Party’s (BJP) false propaganda alleging corruption in Telangana’s welfare program has sparked strong criticism and fact-based pushback from Twitterati and officials.
On Thursday, the BJP’s official Twitter account @BJP4India posted an animated video accusing Aasara Pension, Rythu Bandhu, Kalyana Lakshmi, Central Government Fund, GST and other projects of corruption and fraud in Telangana.
Rebutting BJP’s animated video spreading misinformation, FactCheck_Telangana tweeted an apt reply: “Rythu Bandhu, Kalyana Lakshmi, Shaadi Mubarak plans to contribute zero to central govt.”
The coalition government’s share of the Aasara pension is only 1.79%, with the remaining 98.21% being borne by the Telangana government, it said.
“GST is a tax collected by central and state governments directly from traders. All payments are done online. So there is no room for corruption. Hence, the animated video posted on @BJP4India is incorrect and misleading ,” said the handle who fact-checks misinformation on Telangana.
The BJP’s attempt to mislead the people also drew sharp criticism from many other Twitter users, with some demanding that the saffron party stop spreading false propaganda against Telangana.
Konatham Dileep, Director of Digital Media at Telangana, tweeted: “To the simple minded jokers who make this cheap video – who can corrupt in direct benefit transfer schemes like Rythu Bandhu, KalyanaLakshmi, ShadiMubarak & Asara Pensions? Sadly, the official line of the BJP is that the coalition government is funding these national programs!”
Y Satish Reddy, Chairman of TSREDCO, tweeted: “Thanks a lot to BJP for exclusively promoting the largest ‘direct beneficiary transfer’ scheme in Telangana, Modi’s contribution to these schemes is ‘0’. If for BJP , benefiting the people of Telangana is called corrupt, then yes, we are corrupt!”
Another Twitter user @vasudevspeaks tweeted: “Shame on BJP4India for these vile tricks. Telangana people know your roots. BJP plays these tricks when it knows it won’t win a straight fight .”
