Angels: The first three episodes of Harry & Meghan, the much-anticipated Netflix documentary series about Prince Harry and his wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, were released on Sunday after a frenzy in the British press over its content and its damaging nature. Four off the air, Variety reported, King Charles III and Prince William will be in attendance.
None of the royals agreed to be interviewed for the series, which contains many revelations about the Harry-Meghan love story – they met on Instagram and Harry was late for their first date! — and the early bumps in their relationship with their family.
However, the first three episodes didn’t contain anything that might upset the royal family, but it included footage of Princess Diana’s controversial “Panorama” interview with now-disgraced BBC journalist Martin Bashir, which Variety noted was “very could anger the Prince of Wales.
The interviews that emerged last year were obtained fraudulently. Earlier this year, the BBC publicly apologized to William and Harry and donated $1.6 million earned from the interview. Prince William later said: “I firmly believe that this ‘Panorama’ program has no legitimacy and should not be aired again.”
In the docuseries, according to Variety, Harry said: “I think we all know now [Diana] Tricked into an interview, but at the same time she spoke the truth about her experience. “
In another clip, Harry said male family members were not sympathetic to the media’s intense intrusion into his and Meghan’s lives because their spouses had suffered the same.
“Some family members said, ‘But my wife has to go through this,'” Harry said. “So why should your girlfriend be treated differently?” Why should you get special treatment? Why protect her? I say the difference here is racial. “
Harry and Meghan also revealed that Meghan’s acting career – when she was starring in the long-running legal series Suits – was one of the “biggest issues” facing the royal family. Unnamed family members reportedly predicted to Harry that the relationship would not last.
The couple shared intimate details of how they met, as well as the first time Meghan met Harry’s relatives, including William and his wife Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, and her first interaction with Queen Elizabeth.
Meghan repeated an anecdote from her interview with Oprah Winfrey last year, in which she said the meeting with the queen was unexpected and Harry asked her if she would curtsey on the way to Windsor Castle.
“How do you explain this to people?” Harry said to series assistant Liz Garbus. “You’re going to bow to your grandmother, how do you explain that? And you need to curtsy, especially to Americans. Like, it’s weird.”
