Hyderabad: The Election Commission of India received 98 complaints about the distribution of money and cash, which were seized in two places in the Munugod constituency where polls were held on Thursday.
About 38 calls were made to police complaints related to the presence of non-voters (outsiders) in the constituency, and 72 people were identified and removed from the constituency during the polls.
Turnout for the constituency was over 77 percent until the last report. All three major parties – TRS (now BRS), Congress and BJP, have filed complaints against each other over breaches of polling codes, distribution of alcohol and cash, and the spread of fake news.
The TRS delegation, led by Rajya Sabha member B Lingaiah Yadav, complained to the Chief Election Officer that BJP candidate Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy and his aides were addicted to handing out alcohol and cash to attract voters in Munugode constituency, especially in Choutuppal, Marriguda, Chandur and surrounding areas field.
They claim the BJP is trying to incite violence and has deployed more than 15 special teams. Also, Rajgopal Reddy and BJP state president Bandi Sanjay staged demonstrations in Munugode constituency and Hyderabad respectively to distract attention before creating riots in Munugode polls.
BJP state leaders also accused TRS of distributing cash and alcohol to voters. They claim that many non-local leaders remain in Munugod to oversee the vote. Congress has also lodged a complaint against fake news created using the famous Telugu channel logo, claiming that Congress candidates met Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao in Munugode bypoll, Palvai Sravanthi.
Congress condemned the distorted photos of Sravanthi as being used to spread fake news and demanded action against the perpetrators. They suspect the BJP is indulging in this kind of shenanigans. The CEO raised the issue with ECI’s superiors and assured appropriate action.
Chief executive Vikas Raj told the media that since the polls began on Thursday, there have been 98 complaints about breaches of the polling code, including cash and alcohol distribution, presence of non-locals, etc.
