Hyderabad: GHMC’s Law Enforcement, Vigilance and Disaster Management (EV&DM), in an effort to enhance fire safety in the city, has decided to engage the public as part of its law enforcement activities.
Citizens are therefore urged to report any breaches in the fire safety of commercial buildings and complexes to the authorities. Complaints and grievances about stairs or fire exits in commercial buildings found to be locked, closed or unavailable can be made via WhatsApp: 9154114998 or Freephone: 1800 599 0099 between 10am and 6pm all weekdays.
If reporting a complaint via WhatsApp, details of the business establishment including name location etc. must be sent along with a photo. Citizens can also lodge complaints with EV&DM’s Central Enforcement Cell (CEC), the bureau’s official e-charan system, which imposes penalties for various offenses within GHMC limits. “@CEC_EVDM” is the Twitter ID for reporting complaints/grievances to the department.
In addition to reporting grievances related to lack of fire safety measures at commercial establishments, violations of public property within GHMC restrictions, illegal charging of parking fees, and unauthorized construction, reports can also be made via the same phone number and Twitter ID.
“In addition to reporting commercial establishments that are not equipped with fire safety equipment, we will also receive complaints related to encroachment of parks, open spaces and lakes within GHMC’s restrictions,” EV&DM director N Prakash Reddy said in a statement.
Following complaints from citizens, EV&DM this week imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 each on establishments found to be charging parking fees illegally.
