CM KCR opens academic program for MBBS students at eight new government medical schools

Hyderabad: On Tuesday, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao officially opened an academic session for the eight new government medical schools spread across eight districts. At 12 noon, he opened the course virtually at Pragathi Bhavan.

Calling it an auspicious day in Telangana’s history, the chief minister said the state government is targeting the establishment of a government medical school in all 33 districts of the state. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the number of medical schools increased from 5 to 17. Over the next two years, we will open 17 new colleges in the remaining regions. All eight new government medical schools of Sangareddy, Mahabubabad, Mancherial, Jagtial, Wanaparthy, Kothagudem, Nagarkurnool and Ramagundam started their MBBS courses simultaneously. Regional collectors, health department officials and medical students from all eight universities participated in the launch event. On this occasion, the Chief Minister congratulated the cadres and staff for realizing the dream of aspiring doctors, ensuring the rapid establishment of the medical school and meeting the nation’s need for more medical seats and better medical services.

These new medical schools were constructed at a cost of Rs 4,080 crore, increasing the total number of MBBS seats in Telangana by 1,150. As a result, the number of MBBS seats will increase from 850 in 2014 to 2,790 in 2022. “Over the past eight years, we’ve also increased our PG seats from 515 to 1,180 and our super-pro seats from 70 to 152,” he said.

Chandrashekhar Rao said the state government was also trying to increase paramedic staff. Along with the School of Medicine, a Government School of Nursing will be established in each of the 33 districts. In addition, paramedical courses will be offered through government colleges to meet the growing demand for their services.
