Hyderabad: A two-judge panel at the Telangana High Court comprising Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Judge CV Bhaskar Reddy on Thursday directed the Telangana government to reserve 2 per cent of sports quota for the state Government jobs and enrollment in educational institutions.
The court further clarified that the state government should respond positively as soon as possible before February 6.
Ragula Naresh Yadav and four other para-athletes brought the case challenging the GO 74 issued in 2012 and the subsequent recruitment notice for village council secretary in September 2021. They are excluded.
The petitioners argue that they are disenfranchised by the state government’s decision not to consider disabled sports under the Sports Reservation.
On the other hand, the government argues that Para Athletics is a sport for people of different abilities, who already receive a 3% quota in the physical disability category.
The petitioners say that there is a system of vertical and horizontal reservations where women who are reserved under female quotas are also eligible for caste quotas.
The panel acknowledged the petitioners’ arguments as legitimate and directed the government to respond positively.
Sunil Kanugolu seeks to settle case
Telangana State Congress Committee (TPCC) lead polling strategist Sunil Kanugolu has appealed to the Telangana High Court to withdraw the criminal case against him in the Congress War Room case. litigation.
The three were initially detained from Sunil’s office, and they were released. Now, police have informed Sunil to appear in court on Friday for an investigation.
He has raised an argument that he was politically targeted by the Telangana police at the behest of the ruling BRS party, given the state’s scheduled elections in 2023.
The petitioner said he was shocked to learn through the media that the Telangana Police intends to make him the lead accused in the case.
On the Facebook page “Telangana Galam”, a video allegedly depicts the Chief Minister, his daughter Kavitha and son K Taraka Rama Rao as characters from the movie “Mayabazar”. The petition reads that superimposing characters is just a political satire, but the police’s actions are an unreasonable abuse of the legal process.
Neither offenses under Section 469 nor Section 505(2) of the Indian Penal Code have been invoked, and the petitioner claims that the current action by the police constitutes a malicious prosecution.
The petition is likely to be heard in court on Monday.
