London: Fans of the “Harry Potter” series have been asked not to leave their socks on Freshwater West Beach in Pembrokeshire, Wales, a memorial to the fictional house-elf Dobby.
According to Variety, this is after fans left so many socks at the Dobby Memorial that it started to become an environmental issue at Tamsui West Beach.
This is the same location where Dobby’s death scene was filmed in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1.
Following this, fans erected a monument to Dobby and they started leaving socks on site as a tribute to the house-elves in the movie who were tricked into giving him one by evil owner Lucius Malfoy Freed from indentured slavery after socks.

Recently, however, when environmental officials from conservation charity National Trust Wales conducted an eight-month review of the site, they decided to allow the memorial to remain standing, despite warnings to fans.
In a statement, according to media reports, National Trust Wales Said: “Dobby’s monument will remain in Tamsui West for a short period of time for people to enjoy. The Trust is asking visitors to take pictures only when visiting the memorial to help preserve the wider landscape.”
In the findings of their review, they noted that “items such as socks, trinkets and paint chips from painted pebbles may enter the marine environment and food chain, putting wildlife at risk.”
“While we are delighted that so many people want to visit, we have to balance the popularity of the site with the sensitive nature of the beach and the impact on the wider environment as well as pressure on the facilities and surrounding roads,” Officer Jonathan Hughes is working with National Trust Wales, Variety reported.
