Lucknow: Rashtriya Parv Evam Utsav Samiti, an RSS-backed group, has organized a signature campaign to convert the “Ramcharitmanas” – epic poems based on the Ramayana, written by the 16th-century Bhakti poet Tulsidas ——Declared as “Certificate of Credence”.
The event is launched on the first day of Chaitra Navratri, which marks the beginning of the Hindu New Year.
Samiti said in a statement that the main purpose of organizing the event was to shed light on the importance of the Hindu New Year and the importance of religion as a way of life.
The movement came to prominence against the backdrop of Samajwadi party leader Swami Prasad Maurya’s controversial statement that certain verses of the Ramcharitmanas demean certain sections of society, including the backward classes.
