New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal met wrestlers protesting at the Jantar Mantar Observatory on Saturday, demanding the arrest of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Briji Bhushan Sharan Singh, and People are urged to come forward and support these athletes.
Some of India’s top wrestlers, including Olympic medalists Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik, as well as Asian and Commonwealth Games medalist Vinesh Phogat are protesting at Jantar Mantar to demand sexual harassment allegations against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
Kejriwal said: “Regardless of political affiliation, be it BJP, Congress or AAP, all people who love this country should support the protesting wrestlers. While we will provide them with all necessary support, I appeal to the central government not to cut off water and electricity and other basic facilities,” Kejriwal said.
“It took 7 days for the Delhi Police to register the FIR. If the girls don’t come forward, the bad things will continue,” he added.
Earlier on Saturday, Congress secretary-general Priyanka Gandhi Vadra met wrestlers protesting at the Jantar Mantar Observatory, where she accused the center of “protecting” the World Boxing Association president.
India’s top wrestlers have been protesting since last Sunday, calling for the ouster of WFI president following allegations of sexual harassment and criminal intimidation by Brij Bhushan. They are also seeking criminal proceedings against the head of WFI.
